Employees are satisfied, so Karolina Adolewska, director of HR in Herbapol Poznań, are surprised by negative comments on the network about plans to shorten working time in Poland.

– Certainly, entrepreneurs are afraid that high labor costs will increase. Perhaps this is the main reason that makes them see this change in black scripts. For now, we enter pilot projects, i.e. we learn to work in a short working time. It is worth remembering that implementing such a change will not be equally easy for all companies, because a lot depends on the industry and the nature of the business – emphasizes our interlocutor.

Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk at the end of April She announced the launch of a shorter work week pilotage. The experiment is to start next year.

“You can reduce the number of working hours in one day, you can spread it for many days a week, another solution will be to grant additional holidays. Pilot participants will choose the model of shortening working time, best suited to them organization ” – we read about sample possibilities for companies in the department's announcement.

This solution is to be introduced without reducing salaries. Companies and offices are to participate in the experiment, which will voluntarily apply. The ministry provided for their support PLN 10 million from the Labor Fund.

Compromise: two free Fridays

We return to Herbapol. The company decided to introduce a shortened working time for all employees, regardless of their position.

– The pilot was that we implemented one Friday free in each quarter and increased by another quarter – one day. In the first quarter of 2024, we implemented one Friday free, in the second quarter – two Fridays and on the third we should, according to our assumptions and plans, implement three Fridays. For organizational, operational reasons, but also related to the pace of other processes, we had to postpone this step – says the representative of Herbapol Poznań.

He explains that this happened because of priorities and goals. – The need to ensure the right time to carry out tasks related to the development of the company and current business processes is a priority for us. We have an ambitious business strategy and specific goals that we want to achieve effectively, and shortening working time sets new challenges before us – he adds.

– After numerous conversations and joint analyzes, we decided that at least at the moment we remain with the dissolution of two free Fridays a month. This is a compromise that allows us to maintain a balance between the company's pace and the comfort of the team's work – tells us the director of HR Herbapol Poznań.
