73. Tournament Czterech Skoczni started for good. On Sunday, there was a competition in Oberstdorf, which was dominated by the Austrians. Evidence? They took all the places on the podium – Stefan Kraft stood on the highest step for the 44th time in his career. And how did the Poles perform? Poorly. Only two of the four White and Reds advanced to the second series – they were Paweł Wąsek and Jakub Wolny. Ultimately, the first one took 10th place, which was his best result this season, and the second one took 30th place.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen Qualifications. Five Poles will fight for a pass to the main competition
– On the one hand, Paweł's result was really nice, but on the other… the rest was tragic. (…) All this is not simple. I talk all the time, especially now with Alex Stoeckl, about this and he keeps telling me that you need patience. Only I explain to him that we spend a lot of money, but there are no results. How can I be calm? – emphasized Adam Małysz in an interview with “Przegląd Sportowy Onet”.
However, fans do not lose hope and believe that a breakthrough for Thomas Thurnbichler's players will finally come. Will this happen in Garmisch-Partenkirchen? This is where the best ski jumpers in the world will move on Tuesday. On this day, qualifications for the New Year's main competition will take place.
Five White and Reds will line up at the start of the competition. In addition to the above-mentioned Wąsk and Wolny, these will be Aleksander Zniszczoł, Piotr ¯y³a and David Kubacki. The last mentioned player will be especially counting on improving the result. In the end, the Olympic bronze medalist did not even manage to make it through the qualifications in Oberstdorf – he finished in 53rd place.
In the past, Poles were successful in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Stoch and Kubacki have one victory each here. This year it is practically impossible to repeat this result. Stoch does not start in TCS at all, and Kubacki is in terrible shape.
