Poland, France, Germany and Italy have signed a letter of intent to develop a cruise missile with a range of over 500 kilometres, Reuters reported. Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the document concerns various activities related to long-range missiles. He also said that these missiles are already being developed. – When we will be able to purchase these missiles depends on our joint actions. There is good will, we have managed to create a group that is ready for this – he noted.

The defence ministers of four EU countries signed a letter of intent on this matter during the summit. FOR THIS in Washington. The Polish Ministry of National Defense informed about it on platform X. As the ministry reported, it is a “letter of intent regarding the development of long-range precision strike capabilities”. “The aim of the agreement is to establish cooperation, which in the future will allow for the implementation of joint projects in this area and shorten the time of their implementation” – it was written.

This is the start of an initiative to develop ground-launched cruise missiles with a range of more than 500 km, which would fill a gap in European arsenals that they say has been exposed by war in Ukraine.

The head of the Ministry of National Defense was asked about the letter of intent regarding long-range missiles at a briefing during the North Atlantic Alliance summit. Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

– This is another agreement that I signed during the summit. It is between us, France, Germans and Italians as countries forming a group interested in joint actions, purchases, preparations for long-range missiles – he said. He also noted that “this is an initiative that we discussed at the Weimar Triangle”.

– We are starting cooperation, I am counting on quick results – he added.

He also pointed out that “today it was signed, it is a new idea”. – There is a need for the next few months. We count on other countries to join this. I would not like to limit myself to the big four, it can be described that way. But we will see the effects within the next 12 months – he argued.

Kosiniak-Kamysz also said that these missiles are already being created. – This (…), when we will be able to purchase these missiles, depends on our joint actions. When asked about the actions that would follow from this letter, the minister said that “it is a letter of intent for joint actions related to purchases, with joint programmes in this area, exchange of experiences”.

When asked where we would buy these missiles from, he noted that “there is no decision here yet”. – Today, an agreement has been concluded that we will do this together with other countries – he said. When asked whether we will therefore produce, buy, or maybe design missiles, Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized: – The letter of intent is that we will jointly take action to increase capabilities in the area of ​​long-range missiles.
