In L’Ile-Saint-Denis near Paris, a fire broke out on Saturday morning in an 11-story building, killing at least three people. One of the victims is a 13-year-old girl who jumped out of a window, local authorities said, quoted by AFP.
The fire broke out at approx. 10 on the ninth floor of an 11-story block of flats in the Maurice-Thorez estate. “195 firefighters and 60 vehicles have been mobilized for the firefighting and rescue operation,” the Prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis announced in a press release.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the cause of the fire is not yet known.
The recordings posted on the X site (formerly Twitter) show clouds of smoke from the upper floors of the building during the intervention of the fire brigade.
Several residents of the building suffered from smoke inhalation
“The rescue operation continues. The prefecture asks residents not to open their windows due to heavy smoke and no longer call the fire brigade to the site,” wrote the portal of the daily “Le Figaro” on Saturday afternoon.
Several residents of the building suffered from smoke inhalation, authorities said. The death toll could still rise.
