Since Saturday, the services are looking for a 2.5-year-old boy named Emile, who disappeared from his grandparents’ backyard in Vernet, southern France. More than 200 people, as well as drones and helicopters, are involved in the search operation. “I don’t understand why we haven’t found Emile yet.” We have already looked everywhere – admits Mayor Vernet.

2.5-year-old Emile was playing in the yard of his grandparents’ house in Vernet, southern France, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. At one point, when the family was getting ready to go on a trip and the grandparents wanted to put the boy in the car, they realized that the child was missing, the mayor of the village, François Balique, told French broadcaster BFMTV.

Local services were immediately notified of the missing child and a search for him was launched. However, almost 48 hours after Emile disappeared, he still has not been found. Over 200 people are already involved in the search: gendarmes, firemen and volunteers, helicopters, drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras and tracking dogs are also involved in the operation. Initially, the search area was set at five kilometers around the place of his disappearance, but due to the fact that no trace of the child was found, the search area was extended on Monday.

The search for 2.5-year-old Emile

French services do not exclude any hypothesis regarding the disappearance of the child. According to the local mayor, there is no indication that a kidnapping has taken place. In an interview with BFMTV, he pointed out that the village is a “dead end”, there are not many tourists in it, and children can move around freely. – We live like a larger family, if a child slips out of sight, we do not worry, because the whole community is watching – he pointed out.

Two witnesses claim to have seen the boy near their home, but this did not strike them as suspicious, as in this village children often play with each other in the street. At the same time, the French media report that Emile does not live in this area. The boy is to come from another part of France, and to come to his grandparents for vacation in the mountain Vernet.

Due to the fact that the village has only a few dozen houses, and the search has been going on for quite a long time, Balique expressed his incomprehension of the situation. “I don’t understand why we haven’t found Emile yet.” We have already searched everywhere, today we start again – he said on Monday morning.

Searching for a boy

David Corona, a former member of the French National Gendarmerie, told BFMTV that Emile’s age could be both an advantage and a disadvantage for search teams. – Emile is 2.5 years old, so he won’t be able to go very far on his own. The problem is that due to his poor motor skills, if he is in a place where he finds it hard to get out of, he will have trouble finding his way back,’ he noted.
