Paris issues 12 Embassy employees from the country and calls on the consultation of his ambassador in this country. This is the answer to the previous decision the authorities in Algiers regarding several employees of the French embassy.
On Monday, France announced that the Algerian authorities demanded that 12 diplomats leave Algeria within 48 hours. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot announced that if this decision is not withdrawn, he would meet with a return reaction.
On Tuesday, on platform X wrote that “Algerian authorities chose escalation”. “We answer as we announced,” he emphasized, adding that “dialogue always, but not one -sided.”

The Elysee Palace issued a message in which it was explained that 12 employees of the Algerian consulate and the embassy received the order to leave the country. In addition, the French ambassador to Paris was called to Paris.
France stated that it would continue to defend its interests and maintains demands towards the authorities in Algiers. The Elysee Palace mentioned national security and cooperation in the migration context as two areas important for France in relations with Algeria.
It was also noted that it is in the interest of both countries to take dialogue. “The President of the Republic appeals to the Algeria authorities to take responsibility and take dialogue as it was on March 31 during the conversation (Emmanuel Macron – ed.) With the President of Algeria,” said the Elysee Palace.

Friction between countries
These diplomatic tensions appeared a few days after three Algeria citizens in France, including one employee of the latter consulate.
The detention is related to the case of Amir Boukhors, the opponent of the Algerian authorities and the influencer, known for his publication on Tiktoku under the pseudonym of Amir Dz. Boukhors received asylum in France in 2023. Algerian authorities sent an international arrest warrant for him.
The French Anti -terrorist Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) suspects that three men detained on Friday are involved in a short -term abduction of Boukhors in April 2024. Influencer is convinced that this abduction was an attempt to intimidate that Algeria's special services stand.
On April 11, the French prosecutor's office charged the detainees, and the MFA of Algeria a day later stated that the case “would cause great damage to Algerian-French relations.”

Algeria is a former French colony. Relations between these countries have long been difficult, but in the last year they got worse. Recently, Minister Barrot stayed in Algeria with a visit, and after meeting President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that both countries want to “rebuild equal partnership”. According to the Algeria authorities, the last arrests are an attempt to destroy efforts to repair relations.
