France. Demonstrations in Paris against sexual violence

Women’s rights activists gathered for a demonstration on Saturday in Paris and other French cities. They protested against gender-based and sexual violence. They demanded more effective action from politicians.

The demonstration in Paris, organized by the #NousToutes collective, gathered – according to the organization – 50,000 people, and according to the police – 18,000 people.

Participants dressed in purple costumes carried banners with, among others, saying: “Violence is not inevitable, it can be stopped.”

“It is no longer possible to tolerate this violence,” said Yannick Jadot, a presidential candidate from the Green coalition, who was present at the Paris demonstration.

Feminist organizations have also protested against incest and pedophilia.

For the first time, the so-called Christian procession, organized by “Christian Feminist and LGBTQIA Organizations”. “Around the victims of gender and sexual violence in our churches,” her banner proclaimed.

“It’s important to show that there are many ways to be Catholic,” said participant Alix Bayle.

In France, around 220,000 women are victims of violence each year and 94,000 are raped, #NousToutes recalls. As of January 1, 101 women have been killed by their spouse or partner. According to the Ministry of the Interior, throughout 2020, 102 women were murdered, and in 2019 – 146.
