France. Gerard Depardieu in court after the allegations of sexual assault

Gerard Depardieu appeared in the Paris court at the trial regarding the allegations of sexual assaults, which he was to be committed to two women in 2021. In recent years, more women have prosecution towards the French star, Depardieu consistently denies them.

The trial of Gerard Depardieu began in autumn 2024, but He was postponed because of the health condition of the 76-year-old. On Monday, the actor came to the trial half an hour before its beginning, he did not speak for the media.

Even before the trial began, several dozen people gathered demonstrating in defense of victims of sexual assaults. The slogans “victims – we believe you, rapists – we see you” or “if you touch one, all (to it) we will answer”.

This is the first process against Depardieu about sexual assault. Although in recent years more women have accused him of unacceptable behavior, there has never been a formal accusation. The actor denies all accusations. On Monday, his lawyer spoke to the media, who stated that the accusations against the star were lying.

The process that will last three days concerns events on the film set in 2021. The identity of women who accuse Depardieu has not been disclosed. One of them was the stage designer of the film “Green blinds”, which filed a complaint in February 2024. The second worked as an assistant to produce the same film.

The lawyer of one of the women, Carine Durrieu-Diabolt, told Reuters that her client was afraid to accuse the actor because he is a “giant of cinema”, a person much higher in the world of cinema, so it is “a fight between David and Goliath.”

In the event of a conviction of Depardieu, there is a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of 75,000. euro.
