The police intervention took place in the center of Nice, about half a kilometer from the Promenade des Anglais. AFP said, citing a witness, that only one shot had been fired.

An officer serving with the search and intervention brigade of the Nice Judiciary Police was placed in custody on suspicion of “intentional homicide”.

The Nicene prosecutor said that several people related to the Christmas murder case had been arrested as part of a police operation.
