Paris woke up on Thursday covered in a blanket of snow. Rain, which is rare in the French capital, allowed the famous buildings to be admired in an extraordinary setting.

Snow began to fall in Paris on the night from Wednesday to Thursday and stopped early in the morning. Roofs of buildings, cars and streets were covered with a thin white layer. The rainfall was met with enthusiasm by tourists who eagerly posed for photos against the snow-covered background of famous buildings and monuments in the French capital.

Those who had to commute to work or school were less happy. In the early morning hours, RER trains ran with disruptions around the Paris metropolitan area, and buses also had delays.

In some places in northern France the rainfall was heavy, with up to 15 centimeters of snow, which also led to disruptions to road and rail transport. A lot of snow fell, among others, in Lille.
