French President Emmanuel Macron said during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Paris that he did not rule out sending Leclerc tanks to Ukraine, Reuters reported.
French president Emmanuel Macron hosts the German chancellor in Paris on Sunday Olaf Scholz. The two leaders celebrate the anniversary of the Franco-German peace pact signed in 1963 by Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer.
At a meeting on Friday at the US military base in German Ramstein, representatives of 50 supporting countries Ukraine discussed the possibilities of military assistance. They failed to reach an agreement on the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine. USA and other allies expected that Germany will supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks and will allow other countries, as the manufacturer of these combat vehicles, to do the same.
The main battle tank of the French army
The AMX-56 Leclerc is the main battle tank of the French Army. It was designed in the 1980s, and its mass production was launched in 1990 by the Nexter group.
In total, about 900 tanks were produced, almost half of which were exported to the United Arab Emirates. A tank modernization program is currently underway. They will receive an updated fire control system and new electronics.
