A tourist plane piloted by a Polish drug smuggler was intercepted over France by a Rafale fighter. As reported by AFP, upon seeing the approaching machine, the pilot threw packages with “goods” out of the cockpit. After the emergency landing, the man was detained by the police.

The behavior of the pilot of a small tourist plane that took off on Saturday from Freiburg in Germanyalarmed French authorities, and the Rafale was picked up by the military when the plane flew through the forbidden zone over the Fessenheim nuclear power plant in the Haute-Rhine department near the German-French border.

As the fighter approached the plane, a panic-stricken Polish pilot threw packages containing about 30 kilograms of drugs from it, AFP wrote.

Rafale’s pilot notified the gendarmerie, which collected packages with “white powder” in several communes. He is being analyzed, the French prosecutor’s office said.

After landing, the pilot began to run away

The pilot of a tourist plane made an emergency landing at the airport in Lanas, in the department of Ardèche in the south-east Franceand after getting out of the cockpit he started to run, but was quickly stopped by the GIGN (Intervention Group of the National Gendarmerie).

45,000 euros were found in the plane and the pilot’s backpack. A military spokesman told AFP that such operations are “extremely rare”. He praised the cooperation between the air force and gendarmerie.

AFP reported that the detained Pole “is known to the French judiciary” in connection with drug smuggling.
