A court in the French department of Gironde issued a verdict in the case of two pensioners who admitted to attempting to murder a 55-year-old man. “Le Figaro” reports on the investigation during which it was established that the three men knew each other. One of the convicts allegedly did not come to terms with the fact that he had been abandoned by a woman who had an affair with a 55-year-old man.
On Thursday, the court in the southwestern Gironde department France sentenced 66-year-old Jean-Claude L. and 73-year-old Michel D. to 16 and 12 years in prison, respectively, for attempted murder. Both pensioners pleaded guilty. The background of the tragic events was the affair of one of them – describes the daily “Le Figaro”.
Attempted murder, romance in the background
During the investigation, it was established that in 2020, a woman separated from her husband, whose name was changed by “Le Figaro” Manon, started an affair with Jean-Claude L. However, this relationship did not prove to be lasting, because in January 2021, Manon began a close relationship with another man, 55-year-old Gilles, and two months later she broke up with Jean-Claude L., which he could not come to terms with.
Gilles was the victim of an attempted murder on October 11, 2021 in Coutras. According to “Le Figaro”, the man was driving slowly in his car on a country road when he suddenly noticed that a car was following him but was not overtaking him. Moments later he was shot. He regained consciousness in the hospital. He had gunshot wounds to the chest and punctured lungs. The spleen, both kidneys, pancreas, scapula, right hand, pelvis and left arm were also damaged. Doctors found five bullets used for hunting deer in his body.
He “completely manipulated” his partner
The plan to kill Gilles appeared in the head of Jean-Claude L., who had been abandoned by Manon, a few months earlier, the services found. However, the 66-year-old did not want to commit the murder himself and persuaded Michel D. to commit the crime, who initially refused several times. Ultimately, however, he was convinced by the promise that Jean-Claude L. “would take sole responsibility for all events if the police were to track them down.”
– Mr. D. is a person who is very easily influenced and has a low level of intelligence. Mr. L. completely manipulated him, the prosecutor argued in court. According to him, Michel D. was only an “extension of the weapon” of Jean-Claude L., who is a hunter, and the rifle and cartridges used against Gilles were his property.
“Le Figaro” reported that the three men involved in the case knew each other from a club in Saint-Seurin, where they played bocce ball.
