France, Winzenheim. As a result of a fire in a hotel where disabled people were staying, 11 people were missing

17 people have been evacuated, 11 more are being sought. This is the result of a fire in a hotel rented to people with disabilities in Wintzenheim, north-eastern France.

The fire broke out around 6.30 am. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed that the fire destroyed around 300 square meters of the 500 square meter building. He added that people with disabilities stayed in the hotel.

It’s a half-timbered house rented by an association with Nancy that cares for people with disabilities. The building is adjacent to the therapeutic and educational and pedagogical institute La Forge, reported the France Bleu portal.

Seventeen people were evacuated, one of whom was hospitalized, and another is in severe shock. 11 people are missing.

The fire has already been brought under control. 76 firefighters and 4 fire engines participated in extinguishing the fire. 40 gendarmes were also mobilized. Four ambulances arrived at the scene. The cause of the fire outbreak is not yet known.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and Minister of Solidarity and Family Aurore Berge are to appear on the spot.
