From 1 April this year, the Social Insurance Institution will use the new life expectancy tables announced by the Central Statistical Office. As a rule, they do not apply to people who have already retired – informed Professor Gertruda Uścińska, president of ZUS.

The Central Statistical Office published a new life expectancy table based on mortality data for 2022. They show that last year there were 447,000 deaths. deaths, i.e. less by 72 thousand. compared to 2021 (519,000), and also less by 39,000. than in 2020 (486,000). However, there were more deaths by 39,000. than in 2019 (408,000), i.e. the last pre-pandemic year. Compared to last year’s table of the Central Statistical Office there was an increase in the average life expectancy in all age groups, including: 18.6 months for 30-year-olds, 15.4 months for 60-year-olds, 13.8 months for 65-year-olds, 6.0 months for 80-year-olds. – However, the average life expectancy is still shorter than in the last pre-pandemic table of the Central Statistical Office, i.e. from 2020, which was created on the basis of mortality data in 2019 – said the president ZUS. She noted that “from April 1 this year, ZUS will use the new GUS table to calculate the amount of newly granted benefits pensions“.

How will the GUS tables affect the amount of pensions?

– The latest life expectancy table allows you to calculate a person’s pension at the age of 60 lower by 6.1 percent, and people aged 65 – by 6.6 percent. than in the previous table – added the president of ZUS. For example: a 60-year-old with a capital of 500,000. PLN will receive a pension in the amount of PLN 1,966.18, i.e. less by approx. PLN 127 (due to the fact that the capital will be divided by 254.3 instead of 238.9 months). On the other hand, a 65-year-old with a capital of 500 thousand. PLN will receive a pension of PLN 2,380.95, i.e. less by approx. PLN 167 (due to the fact that the capital will be divided by 210.0 instead of 196.2 months). However, the table allows you to calculate a still higher pension than before the pandemic by 2.8 percent. for a 60-year-old and 3.6 percent. for a 65-year-old.

A 60-year-old woman with capital of 500 thousand. PLN may receive more by approx. PLN 54 than on the basis of the table from 2020 (capital divided by 254.3 instead of 261.5 months), and a 65-year-old man with the same capital – more by approx. PLN 83 (capital divided by by 210.0 instead of 217.6 months).

The new plates do not apply to those who have already retired with small exceptions

As a rule, the new plates do not apply to people who have already retired. Conversion of the benefit is possible in strictly defined situations, e.g. when the pensioner worked and paid pension contributions after the benefit was granted. Once a year or after termination of employment, he may add them to the benefit. However, the most recent table will only be used for the additional premiums and not for the entire benefit.
