I was sure that it would be more expensive at gas stations – said Piotr Woźniak, former Minister of Economy and former president of PGNiG, in the “Fakty po Faktach” program, referring to fuel prices after the elections. The TVN24 guest also commented on Orlen’s results for the third quarter.

The guest of Tuesday’s “Fakty po Faktach” program was Piotr Woźniak, former Minister of Economy and former president PGNiG. He referred, among other things, to prices at gas stations in Orlen in the period after the elections and previous announcements about “dispenser failures”.

“Thanks to occult forces, the mechanics have improved over the last two weeks or so,” he said.

As he assessed, in the case of Orlen before October 15, “the pricing policy went against market trends.” – This is bad news for those who see market trends as opportunities for cheaper fuel in the short term. In the near future, we should expect prices to be the same as now or higher, he said.

– I won’t shoot, but in my opinion it may exceed PLN 7, which I do not want as a fuel consumer. However, that is not the whole problem – it will be PLN 6, 7 or 8. The increase will have consequences not only for drivers, but for the entire economy. This is a serious problem, he noted.

“An attempt to powder the previous report”

Piotr Woźniak also commented on Orlen’s latest results. – An attempt to sugarcoat the previous report, which included the so-called profit from the bargain purchase of Lotos, PGNiG, and even earlier Energa – he said.

In his opinion, this is “an attempt to get out of a situation in which it was known that much less was paid than should have been paid, for example, for Lotos.” – It is being relativized at the moment, which is even worse than an outright lie – he explained.

According to the fuel giant’s announcement, Orlen’s profit in the third quarter of 2023 amounted to almost PLN 3.46 billion, and sales revenues reached PLN 75.4 billion. – In this industry, this is not excessive profit – said the former Minister of Economy.

Orlen “immersed in politics”

Previously, the guests of the “Tak jest” program on TVN24 were Joanna Solska from the weekly “Polityka” and Witold Orłowski from the Vistula Academy and the Warsaw University of Technology.

– What is happening at Orlen does not reflect the condition of Orlen, but how deeply involved it is in politics. Orlen prices do not depend on world oil prices, they do not depend on dollar exchange rate. They depend solely on political guidelines, Solska said.

She recalled that when “gasoline was supposed to be cheap before the elections, it was cheap.” – Now gasoline is getting more expensive because we have to make up for these losses. Therefore, the first thing that needs to be done (after the elections – editor) is to clean up the State Treasury companies and get the parties out of the companies – she said.

Witold Orłowski drew attention to the “dismantling of the state” by the current government. – the office of Competition and Consumer Protection he does not react at all to the fact that the domestic monopolist does not even hide that he manipulates prices – he said in “Tak jest”.

– This means that he has stopped fulfilling his role – he said.
