Last night was worth looking at the sky. It was dominated by the magnificent Beaver Moon. Reporters 24 captured the penultimate full moon of this year in photos.

The culmination of the November full moon, called the Full Beaver Moon or the Frost Moon, will occur on Monday at 10:16 a.m. But we have already received photos of our impressive-looking natural satellite on Kontakt 24. This is the penultimate such phenomenon of 2023.

If the weather conditions are good, the Silver Globe will also be visible on the night after the full moon, i.e. from Monday to Tuesday.

Beaver Moon, Frost Moon. Where does the name come from?

Why is the November full moon called the Full Beaver Moon? Ancient cultures around the world named each full moon based on plant vegetation, animal behavior, or weather. The November full moon is called, among others, the Full Beaver Moon or the Beaver Moon, which is related to the special activity of these rodents at night, when they prepare for the coming of winter by building dams in the moonlight.

The full moon in November is also called the Frost Moon. The first autumn frosts, usually falling in November, were a sign of the end of field work.

How the full moon is formed

The full moon is one of the four phases of the moon. It occurs when the Silver Globe is in opposition to the Sun, i.e. on the opposite side of the Earth from our star. During a full moon, the entire disk of the Moon is visible, fully illuminated by sunlight. At the same time, the other side is not lit at all. This phenomenon occurs on average every 29.5 days.

The next full moon will take place on December 27. The full moon of the last month of the year is called the Cold Moon.
