Garwolin police stopped 16-year-olds riding mopeds. They reported that the teenagers had broken a number of laws. However, that was not the end of their problems. It turned out that the vehicles they were traveling in had modified engines, which allowed them to reach speeds higher than the permitted speed.
The recording, which the police obtained, “shows two moped drivers overtaking another vehicle at high speed on Aleja Legionów Street in Garwolin, crossing a double solid line directly before the crossing and directly on the pedestrian crossing,” said Deputy Commissioner MaÅ‚gorzata Pychner from the District Police Headquarters in Garwolin in a statement.
Last Friday, September 13, before midnight, a police patrol stopped 16-year-old drivers traveling on mopeds. According to the officers, the teenagers were carrying passengers.
Mopeds with modified engines
“During the inspection, the police initially determined that the mopeds, whose design should have limited the speed to 45 km/h, had modified engines, which allowed them to reach much higher speeds,” Pychner explained. The police seized the vehicles' registration certificates and prepared documentation that will be sent to the juvenile court.
As reported by the uniformed officers, on the road you can often see a scooter that, despite the regulation engine capacity (up to 50 cm3), drives much faster. “According to Polish law, a moped is a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with an engine capacity not exceeding 50 cm3 or an electric motor with a power of not more than 4 kW, the design of which limits the speed to 45 km/h,” they clarified.
