AFP emphasizes that the cessation of combat operations in Gaza is becoming more and more urgent every day because the entire Strip is threatened with a humanitarian catastrophe of unimaginable proportions, especially famine. It threatens 2.2 million people, the overwhelming majority of Gaza’s inhabitants.

The first cease-fire agreement was negotiated, also through Qatar, the US and Egypt, at the end of November last year. It enabled the release of over 100 Israeli hostages in exchange for 240 Palestinians.
