Israeli ground forces are conducting operations against Hamas throughout the Gaza Strip, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said on Sunday. General Herzi Halevi said that military action in the south of the Gaza Strip would be “as intense as in the north.”

Earlier on Sunday, the dpa news agency reported that the army began operations in the south of the Gaza Strip, entering the area east of Khan Yunis. There was heavy shelling in the area around the cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah, and the military ordered civilians to leave another five areas. “Khan Yunis is a dangerous combat zone,” the army warned on leaflets distributed over southern Gaza.

After numerous calls from the Israeli army, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled the fighting-torn northern part of the Strip to the south. According to UN about 80 percent of the approximately 2.2 million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip are currently internally displaced.

Over 15 thousand victims

Managed by Hamas health department reported that the death toll from the war exceeded 15,500. The ministry does not specify what part of them are civilians and what part are fighters.
