The prosecutor's office extended the investigation into the disappearance of eight thousand catalogs from the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk for several months. Publications worth at least PLN 200,000 disappeared when Karol Nawrocki was the director.

– It was about 16 pallets of books, the publication of one title “Catalog of the Main Exhibition, Museum of the Second World War”, printed at the beginning of 2017. The catalog, which is the basic publication, which talks about the main exhibition, sums up the entire exhibition – said Dr. Janusz Marszalec, deputy director of Miiwś in December 2024. – The catalog was issued and sold for a while until the director came Karol Nawrockii.e. until April 2017 – he added.

Under the leadership of Karol Nawrocki, the catalog went to the warehouse.

The authorities of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk reported the disappearance of eight thousand catalogs to the prosecutor's office in June 2024. On July 23, 2024, the Gdańsk -Śródmieście District Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation in this matter, which was to end in January this year – but now it has been extended.

– The period of the investigation was extended for a further time until April 23, 2025. In addition, I would like to inform you that in the course of the proceedings, interrogations of subsequent witnesses were planned and additional documentation is also collected – Prosecutor Mariusz Duszyński, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk, told us.

The investigation is being conducted “on abuse in the period from April 2020 to June 2020, authorization or failure to comply with obligations by obliged persons, pursuant to the provisions of the Act or a contract to deal with property matters or the business activity of the Museum of World War II in Gdańsk, caused this institution significant property damage in the amount of not less than PLN 200,000, i.e. for an act of art.

He faces up to 5 years in prison.

– It was not sold or distributed. He was also not handed over to guides. Apparently Mr. Nawrocki recognized him as a position he disagrees with – said Miiw deputy director.

Dr Janusz Marszalec added that – according to the museum authorities – the books were not distributed as part of the “Mask and book” campaign. It was an initiative implemented during the pandemic Covid-19 – Those willing received a book and mask from the museum by post or by courier.

– Eight thousand copies disappeared from the Museum of the Second World War. These books were not sent to the inhabitants of the Tri -City. I have lists of recipients and certainly no one received this catalog, although Mr. Nawrocki and Mr. Berendt say that it was sent to the residents. Sixteen pallets with the position were taken in an unknown direction, we have evidence for this – emphasized the marshal.
