Gdansk. Fire in the Nicolaus Copernicus Hospital. Evacuation of patients and staff

On Saturday evening in the hospital in Gdańsk at Nowe Ogrody Street, a cupboard fire broke out in one of the rooms in the surgery ward. In connection with the incident, 27 patients and six employees of the facility were evacuated. Eight fire engines were at the scene.

“We received a fire report from the security staff of the Mikołaj Kopernik Hospital at Nowe Ogrody Street in Gdańsk on Saturday around 8 p.m.,” the press officer of the Gdańsk fire brigade, brig. Jacek Jakobczyk.

He added that 25 firefighters were working on the spot. “We quickly located the fire. The equipment of the cabinet in one of the general surgery rooms of the hospital was on fire” – he said and added that 27 patients and six hospital employees were evacuated from the building.

Hospital spokeswoman Katarzyna Brożek informed PAP that the patients were allocated to other hospital wards.

Eight fire engines were at the scene. The cause of the fire will be clarified by the police and a fire-fighting expert.
