Seven people were taken to hospital for tests – this is the result of the collision of two trams in Gdańsk. The police already have their initial findings.
At 17:42, the Gdańsk Public Transport Authority announced emergency changes to several lines heading towards Chełm and Łostowice. The reason is an incident involving trams. We received the first photos and recordings on Kontakt24.
Seven people injured
– At approximately 5:30 p.m., police officers received a report of a collision between two trams on Sikorskiego Street. Initial findings by traffic officers indicate that the driver of tram line 3 did not adjust her speed and ran over the rear of a tram line 11 in front of her, which had stopped at the traffic lights – informed Deputy Inspector Magdalena Ciska from the Gdańsk Police Press Office.
Police said that as a result of the collision, seven people were taken to hospital for detailed tests. They reportedly complained of various types of pain.
– The police are still working at the scene of the incident and are investigating the circumstances – adds Ciska.
Communication difficulties
The Gdańsk Public Transport Authority announced on its website that due to this road incident, emergency route changes were introduced for lines 2, 3, 4, 6 and 11.
“Trams of the above-mentioned lines going towards “Lawendowe Wzgórza” and “Łostowice Świętokrzyska” turn around at the “Śródmieście SKM” stop. Trams going towards “Brzeźno Dom Zdrojowy”, “Jelitkowo” and “Strzyża PKM” turn around at the “Chełm Witosa” loop,” the press release reads.
It was also reported that on the section closed to traffic (Chełm Witosa – Sikorskiego – Chałubińskiego – Odrzańska – Pohulanka – Śródmieście SKM) replacement bus transport is in force.
