A dangerous centipede was walking on the couch in one of the apartments in Gdańsk. The woman who discovered the arthropod while cleaning informed the city police about the discovery. The officers failed to identify the owner of the venomous alien.
Resident of ul. Cieszyński in Gdańsk, during morning cleaning, found a 20-centimeter arthropod in her apartment walking on the couch. Concerned by her discovery, the woman notified the city guards.
– It is a centipede, a predatory, venomous snake whose bite may be dangerous to both small animals and people – explained officers of the City Guard in Gdańsk.
Officers from the Ecological Department, taking all precautions, safely placed it in a special container. Then they transported the centipede to a foundation specializing in the care of exotic animals. Such specimens can often be found in home farms, but in this case the owner could not be identified.
Also dangerous for humans
Centipede occurs in tropical and subtropical regions. It can reach up to 35 cm in length. Its abdomen consists of many segments and has many pairs of legs. Despite its inconspicuous appearance, the arthropod can be aggressive and venomous. Therefore, you should not take it in your hands.
Centipede venom kills small animals. In humans, however, it can cause pain, swelling, burning, fever, and sometimes local necrosis.
