The Municipal Commander of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk has appointed an accident commission that will investigate the circumstances of the death of firefighter Bartosz Błyskal. The man died on November 1 while searching for Grzegorz Borys.
The press officer of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk, Brigadier Jacek Jakóbczyk, emphasized in an interview with PAP that “this results from the applicable regulations, the Municipal Commander of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk is required to appoint a post-accident team.”
– The long period of time between the accident and the appointment of the commission is due to the fact that it was necessary to appoint a person with a diver-instructor qualification, who we do not have. It was necessary to appoint such a person from outside, Jakóbczyk emphasized.
Let us recall that firefighter Bartosz Błyskal died on November 1 during the search for Grzegorz Borys, which was carried out in the Lepusz water reservoir in Gdynia. The 27-year-old belonged to the Specialized Water and Diving Rescue Group “Gdańsk”.
That day, the diver took part in searching the Lepusz reservoir located in the Tricity Landscape Park. At some point – as Brigadier Jakóbczyk reported – signals in the form of pulling the rope twice stopped reaching people on the surface. – That’s when the rescue operation began – said the firefighter. He noted, however, that he did not know how long it was underwater and how long the search for the diver lasted.
As we wrote earlier, the diver firefighter could not use the system that allows him to talk to the officers who secured him. The voice communication equipment was, according to the fire brigade, under repair. – The diver communicated using a diving cable – Brigadier Jacek Jakóbczyk from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk informed us.
During the rescue operation, the unconscious diver was pulled out of the water and taken to a hospital in Gdynia, where he died. Initial autopsy results showed that the direct cause of death was acute cardiorespiratory failure. Further detailed research will be needed to show what led to it.
Radio Zet was the first to inform about the appointment of the post-accident commission by the Municipal Commander of the State Fire Service.
