Sirens sounded in units of the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Brigade stations throughout Poland. In this way, firefighters paid tribute to the deceased 27-year-old firefighter-diver Bartosz Błyskal. He died as a result of an accident during the search operation for Grzegorz Borys. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdynia initiated an investigation into his death. Investigators are determining, among other things, the cause of death.
On Thursday, firefighters paid tribute to the deceased diver in units of the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Brigade stations throughout Poland. At exactly 6 p.m. they activated the alarm sirens.
In the morning, the Chief Commander of the State Fire Service, Brigadier General Andrzej Bartkowiak, appealed for all units to join the action.
“On Thursday, November 2, at 6 p.m., let us turn on the light and sound signals in all State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Department units and pay tribute to the late Section Bartosz Błyskal, a diving firefighter from SGRWN KM PSP ‘Gdańsk’, who died as a result of an accident during his operations. A firefighter-diver died during the search operation
Firefighter-diver Bartosz Błyskal took part in the search operation Grzegorz Borys. On Wednesday, he was pulled unconscious from the water reservoir at Lipowa and Źródło Marii streets in Gdynia and taken to a hospital in Gdynia. Unfortunately, the man could not be saved. The activities of firefighters-divers from the Specialist Water and Diving Rescue Group “Gdańsk” were carried out on Wednesday morning at the request of the police.

Prosecutor Mariusz Duszyński from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk told PAP that an investigation has been initiated into the accident.
“The proceedings are being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdynia. We are checking the cause of death and whether all safety standards were met,” he explained.
In an interview with TVN24, Mariusz Duszyński added that an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of the firefighter-diver’s death.
– The prosecutor ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death. An expert will also be appointed to assess the secured diving apparatus. In addition, we will continue to interview other witnesses who took part in the search operation. The prosecutor will also apply to the Provincial Police Headquarters in Gdańsk and the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk to issue documentation prepared in connection with the activities carried out. After obtaining opinions, hearing witnesses and analyzing the evidence, he will decide on the further course of proceedings, emphasized prosecutor Duszyński.
