A 42-year-old man and his 11-year-old son, riding a motorcycle, collided with a bus and died. The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Gębarzewo (Greater Poland Voivodeship). According to preliminary police findings, the bus driver forced the right of way when turning.
The press officer of the State Fire Service in Gniezno, junior brigadier Jarosław Łagutochkin, informed that the accident occurred around 6.30 p.m.
– Two emergency medical teams and a total of six fire brigades arrived on site – he said. First, the motorcycle driver was resuscitated. His baby was pinned under the vehicle. Firefighters raised the vehicle using hydraulic tools and pulled the boy out.
The firefighter added that despite the efforts of rescuers and resuscitation, it was not possible to save the lives of both the child and his father. An LPR helicopter also landed on site.
Initial police findings: the bus driver forced the right of way
Staff aspirant Krzysztof Socha from the Gniezno police confirmed that a 42-year-old man and his 11-year-old son died in the accident.
– According to preliminary findings, the driver of a Volkswagen bus, driving from Gębarzewo towards Gniezno, did not exercise due caution and, when turning left, forced the right of way onto a motorcyclist who was driving correctly from Gniezno, said Socha. The policeman added that the accident victims were riding a motorcycle with an engine capacity of 125 cubic centimeters. Earlier, the fire brigade reported that the injured were traveling on a scooter.
