Gena Rowlands, an American actress known for her roles in “The Notebook” and “A Woman Under the Influence,” has died at the age of 94. In 2015, she received an Oscar for lifetime achievement. She had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for several years.
The news of the actress's death, citing her son, Nick Cassevetes, was reported by American media on Wednesday evening. The portal tmz reported that Rowlands died on Wednesday at her home in Indian Wells in southern California.
Rowlands often played strong, passionate women, and was nominated for two Academy Awards for her leading roles in The Influence (1974) and Gloria (1980), directed by her husband, John Cassavetes.
The actress has also appeared in productions by Woody Allen and Jim Jarmusch.
She has won numerous prestigious awards. In 2015, she was honored with an Oscar for lifetime achievement. She has also won two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes, as well as a Silver Bear in Berlin.

Nick Cassavetes has revealed that his mother has been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for five years. According to the BBC, the actress' son spoke in a recent interview about how his mother played a character suffering from dementia.
“We spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer's and trying to be authentic about it, and now she has Alzheimer's,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
– She has full-blown dementia. And it's so crazy – we lived it, she played it, and now we're living it – he said in an interview.
