General Mirosław Różański on army-politics relations, military parade in Warsaw and candidacy for the Senate

Former general commander of the types of armed forces, retired Lieutenant General Mirosław Różański spoke on Wednesday in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about a military parade in Warsaw. He admitted that she “made an impression on him”. – It confirms that soldiers can perfectly prepare such an undertaking. Words of appreciation for the pilots, for the drivers, for those who coordinated this parade. She made an impression on me until the minister and the president spoke. And then this parade, in my opinion, unfortunately lost its message – he said.

According to him, “the holiday has unfortunately been used to really talk about the achievements of a political party.” – The Polish Army Day should be dedicated only to soldiers and army employees. It is them who should be talked about and pointed out as those who are the most important today, he said.

He also spoke about the words of the president Andrzej Duda, who on the day of the holiday appealed not to involve the army in current disputes. – First of all, the president contradicted himself, because (…) he first appealed for the above, and then he entered into the narrative of Mr. (Defence Minister Mariusz – ed.) Błaszczak, in fact giving untruth in many of his speech fragments – assessed Gen. Rozanski.

The general was also asked if Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s words were not dragging the army into disputes PO leader Donald Tusk is “the greatest threat to our security”. “This is a very bad practice that has been in place for several months now,” he said. – I regret that politicians, who should be, among other things, guardians of the constitution, do not comply with Article 26, which says that the army should be outside any political dispute – he added.

The TVN24 guest also spoke about the president a draft act on the actions of state authorities in the event of an external threat to state security. It assumes the introduction of changes in the system of command and control of the Armed Forces, the establishment of the Joint Forces Command and the reconstruction of the commands of the various types of armed forces.

– This is a decision that refers to my meeting with the president in 2016, where I proposed a similar solution. So if Mr. President returns to the above, then in my person there is someone who will support such a solution, if we can talk about the details of how it will be carried out – said Różański.

He also said that an important question – when there is a war on our border – is whether “today such changes would be good to implement”. – However, I believe that this is a project that is worth discussing and I hope that in the next parliament we will be able to focus on it. The more so that the next parliament will work with the president for another year and a half, he added.

General Różański – who joined Poland 2050 some time ago Szymon Hołownia He also talked about his political aspirations.

When asked if he could confirm that he would run for the Senate, he replied: – For 30 years, the state educated me, trained me. I think it’s worth paying off this debt, I’m ready.

He confirmed that he would be a candidate under the Senate Pact. – It gives me satisfaction that all four groups of this democratic opposition gave me such a mandate. And they seem to agree with my views on the issue of security. This is the card that allows me to apply for this mandate – he said. He added that he would be running for a seat in the parliament from the district in Zielona Góra.

– When I watched over the last few years that security issues are discussed during military picnics, during political rallies, I decided that this was probably not the best formula and we should strive to make parliament a place for this serious discussion. I think I can talk a lot about security issues. And if my adversaries still agree with me or present some alternative to what I am saying, it is probably the parliament that is the best platform, he said.
