For some time now we have been observing an attempt to involve the army in the election campaign. Many commanders did not like this – Marek Kozubal, a journalist from “Rzeczpospolita”, said on TVN24 about the generals’ resignations. In his opinion, the commanders’ decision is “the result of a very sharp conflict between the chief of the general staff and operational commander and the Minister of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak.”
The Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Rajmund Andrzejczak, and the operational commander of the armed forces, Lieutenant General Tomasz Piotrowski, resigned from their positions. The information was first reported by “Rzeczpospolita”. The author of the article, Marek Kozubal, was a guest of TVN24.
“This is the result of a very sharp conflict”
When asked about the reasons for such a decision, he emphasized that “we should wait for the official position of the National Security Bureau, which should give a clear message about the situation around the highest commanders of the Armed Forces.”
– Of course, based on my own information and my own analyzes that I have been preparing for “Rzeczpospolita” for some time, I can conclude that this is the result of a very sharp conflict between the chief of the general staff, the operational commander and the minister of national defense. Mariusz Błaszczak – added Kozubal.
As he said, “this conflict has been smoldering since April and May this year, i.e. since the rocket was found near Bydgoszcz.” – Then the Minister of National Defense basically tried to dismiss the operational commander, claiming that he had not been informed that such an incident had occurred. He accused him of not doing everything possible to find the missile, the journalist recalled.
Kozubal: Many commanders did not like involving the army in the election campaign
He recalled two situations from recent weeks. – Establishment of a group in the east of the country, which was basically created by the “competitive” to the operational command, the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces. Now we are observing the evacuation of Poles from… Israel. It is dealt with by the troops subordinated to the General Command of the Armed Forces, and according to a certain pattern, the operations should be carried out by the operational command, he explained.
The issue of evacuation from Israel – according to Kozubal – was “the straw that broke the camel’s back”. – But this is a broader phenomenon, because for some time the media have been observing this attempt to involve the army in the election campaign. Many commanders did not like this, he added.
