PiS politicians comment on the resignations of generals Rajmund Andrzejczak and Tomasz Piotrowski. Antoni Macierewicz suggested that he had heard “very interesting and unpleasant comments that they did it for political reasons.” The head of MEiN, Przemysław Czarnek, in turn, argued that “there is no conflict or problem.” The Speaker of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, evaded questions on this subject.
The commanders of the Polish Army sent it to President Andrzej Duda on Monday resignations from their positions. This is about the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Rajmund T. Andrzejczak and the operational commander of the armed forces, Lieutenant General Tomasz Piotrowski. The information about this was first reported by “Rzeczpospolita” journalists, which was later confirmed by the spokesman of the General Staff of the Polish Army, Colonel Joanna Klejszmit, and the spokesman of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, Lt. Col. Jacek Goryszewski.
After 1 p.m., the head of the National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera, confirmed that the topic of resignation of the most important Polish generals was the second point of today’s meeting with the participation of the president, prime minister and government representatives. Siewiera said that the generals’ resignations would be accepted by the president.
Macierewicz: I heard very interesting and unsympathetic comments for them
A PiS politician, former head of the Ministry of National Defense, Antoni Macierewicz, was asked about the generals’ resignations. – It’s their decision. I must say that I heard very interesting and unsympathetic comments about them, that they did it for political reasons. I hope that wasn’t the case. I deeply believe that was not the case, he replied.
Macierewicz argued that for his group “the unity of the Polish army is important.” – It is important for us that Minister Błaszczak can effectively lead this army, which is why he has done many things necessary for Poland – he said.
Czarnek suggests resignation with “Tusk’s defeat”
Head of the Ministry of Education, PiS MP Przemysław Czarnek, in turn, assured that “there is no conflict.” – There is no problem, the procedures are being carried out at the moment, in a moment we will have two more generals to replace those who resigned. Anyone can resign, he said.
Czarnek suggested that the dismissal “resulted from Tusk’s defeat” in yesterday’s debate on government television. – However, there is no problem at all, Poland has really excellent military personnel and in a moment you will know new names – he added. – Everything is under control, there is no chaos – he repeated.
Witek: please don’t ask me
Marshal of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek (PiS) did not want to answer questions about this case. – Please don’t ask me about the dismissal of the commanders, please ask the president and the minister of national defense about it. These are not facts that I can talk about because I am not in the subject and that’s all there is to it, she said.
Asked if Mariusz Błaszczak should resign, she replied “absolutely not”. – He is the best minister of national defense, and you can see how he cares about strength Polish army: recreating military units, especially in the east, where unfortunately they were missing and the threat comes from there. We see that the contracts he has been signing for several years are being implemented. He is a truly excellent defense minister, we can feel safe with him, she argued.
Witek did not want to answer further questions.
Changes in the highest command positions in the Armed Forces are to be announced at the Presidential Palace at 4 p.m.
