The head of the German Police Association Andreas Roskopf told the newspaper “Rheinische Post” that in many cases this border was “not only achieved, but also long ago”.
“It is still impossible to do so”
In a survey conducted by a trade union among about 2,000 police officers, about 70 percent stated that border controls are no longer possible to maintain in the current scope. Almost 77 percent definitely rejected restrictions on holidays and free time. About 42 percent said that they are currently working at full speed – only 18.7 percent thought the situation was calm.
The head of the Ministry of the Interior denies
Rosskopf demanded a clear support signal for emergency services. He believes that the Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt must provide more staff, more predictability, more help, better equipment and infrastructure.
Dobrindt ordered more stringent controls on German borders shortly after taking his position at the Ministry of the Interior at the beginning of May. The goal is to gradually reduce the number of migrants entering Germany.
However, members of the Police Trade Union have already criticized factthat there is not enough federal police employees to maintain controls in the long run. Dobrindt recently rejected this criticism and, referring to the federal police, said that the sharpened border controls could be maintained for a long time.
The police now turned to the officers of the Customs Service for help in carrying out the inspection. – Federal police submitted application for administrative assistance to customs authorities in order to further support border controls. It is currently being considered by the customs – said the spokeswoman Ministry of Financewhich is responsible for this formation. Customs services already help at the borders, there are up to 450 officers in the action.
