Germany. 90-year-old man drove against traffic on a motorway. He rammed a Polish bus

The incident occurred on Monday at around 1:30 p.m. on the A6 towards Mannheim in Germany. Initial police findings indicate that A 90-year-old man drove onto a highway against traffic and it was he who caused the accident.

The Mercedes driver drove into the opposite lane at the Frankenthal-Nord exit. After a moment, he caused frontal collision with a van with Polish license plates. The German police report noted that the Polish van was driving in a legal lane.

Against Traffic on the Motorway: 90-Year-Old Caused a Head-On Collision

In the accident, both the 90-year-old driver and his 88-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries. The woman was stuck in the vehicle and she couldn't get out. As a result, the fire department intervened on the spot.

The driver of the Polish car suffered minor injuries. All of the people were transported to hospital for further treatment after tests. However, doctors emphasized that their condition was not life-threatening.

Both cars involved in the incident were significantly damaged. Officers estimated losses of about 20 thousand euros (approximately PLN 86,000).

During the officers' activities at the scene the highway lane was closed. It was closed for about three hours. A detour was put in place.

The police appealed for witnesses to the incident. Anyone who witnessed the accident or simply had dealings with a wrong-way driver is asked to report to the Ruchheim police station.
