In Berlin on New Year’s Eve there were attacks with firecrackers on policemen and firemen. In reaction, the capital’s police union demands a far-reaching ban on the use of these pyrotechnics.

We’ve seen it all Germanythat pyrotechnics are deliberately used as weapons, union chief Stephan Weh said on Sunday. “This has to stop,” added a trade unionist, quoted by the portal of the daily Welt.

According to Weha, a sales ban is needed for everyone who does not deal with pyrotechnics professionally and responsibly.

In Berlin last night there were many incidents related to New Year’s Eve fireworks. As the capital’s police wrote on Twitter last night, police officers and firefighters were “massively attacked with firecrackers” while extinguishing a burning car.

In the preliminary New Year’s Eve tally, the Berlin fire department reported 38 attacks on emergency services and 15 injuries. “We were surprised by the scale and intensity of the attacks on our forces,” the fire department said, adding that the number of injured was “stunned and sad.”
