Germany. Chinese foreign minister: Beijing should influence Moscow to stop the war in Ukraine

We want China to use its influence on Russia to end the war in Ukraine, said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during a joint press conference with the Chinese foreign minister. She also warned of the potentially dire consequences of the escalation of the conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

At a press conference with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang, the German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock addressed, among other things, the issue Taiwan. She assessed that the destabilization of the Taiwan Strait could have tragic consequences for the world economy, and that military escalation in the region was a “terrifying scenario that Germany want to prevent.”

– Conflicts must be resolved peacefully (…). A unilateral, brutal change to the status quo would be unacceptable to us Europeans, the German minister said.

Qin Gang, in turn, pointed out that if countries want to respect the policy of one Chinathen they should strongly oppose Taiwan independence.

Baerbock: China should influence Russia

Baerbock also raised the issue during her visit to China war in Ukraine, emphasizing the need to stop it. She also noted that no other country has as much influence on Russia as China. She expressed hope that Beijing would use this fact to convince Moscow to end the conflict.

Qin declared that China “wants to continue working for peace” and hoped that all parties involved in the war would be restrained and ready to cooperate.
