A Norwegian man boarded flights departing from Munich Airport twice, despite not having tickets for either flight, reports Deutsche Welle. Although the first time the stowaway was effectively thwarted, the Norwegian was not discouraged and traveled to Sweden for free the next day.
According to the German police in a statement, the man from Norway a traveller boarded two flights at Munich Airport within a few days, even though he did not have a valid ticket for either flight.
He tried to travel without a ticket
The 39-year-old first managed to deceive employees of Bavaria's largest airport in early August.
As at other airports, in Munich every passenger has to scan a code from their boarding pass, which opens the gate and allows them to pass through. The German daily “Bild” describes that the Norwegian most likely positioned himself very close to the passenger with a ticket and moved through the airport right behind him.
In this way, the Norwegian managed to slip through the gate and board the plane to Hamburg, which was full. During additional checks, the Norwegian was stopped and the flight attendants called the police. However, they quickly released him.
The second time it worked
The arrest did not discourage the free travel enthusiast. The very next day he showed up, again without a ticket, at Munich Airport. This time he succeeded and flew to Stockholm.
After landing, the man quickly attracted the attention of airport staff because he wanted to fly back to Munich immediately.
After determining that he had traveled to Stockholm without a valid ticket, he was arrested by Swedish police. Officers also found a knife on him.
German police said an investigation had been launched against the man for fraud.
