German politicians have spoken out on Wednesday's events. The head of the Bundestag's defense committee Marcus Faber suspects – quoted by “Welt” – that Behind the acts of sabotage at German military bases stands Russia.

A similar statement was made by the chairman of the Bundestag's Parliamentary Control Committee Constantine of Notz. – There is of course a suspicion that this may be a Russian sabotage operation, he told the WELT TV news channel.
He added, however, that he would rather wait for the results of the investigation to make a final assessment. – No one should doubt that something like this is possible and that Russia has, so to speak, no scruples in carrying out such actions, he concluded.
As noted by Reuters, NATO has previously warned of a campaign of hostile actions by Moscowincluding acts of sabotage and cyberattacks.
Suspicious incidents at bases in Germany
Barracks in Cologne, Germany, have been temporarily closed after it was discovered that the water supply was likely poisoned. a hole was discovered in the fenceindicating possible sabotage. The incident is under investigation.
A few hours later – suspecting that the area might also be at risk – the level of security has been increased at the NATO air base in the German city of Geilenkirchen.
