German rail company Deutsche Bahn said Saturday that rail services in the country's central region had been “seriously disrupted,” adding that a technical fault had caused the disruption. The Tagesschau daily reported that radio communications in the Frankfurt area had failed, according to a spokeswoman for the rail giant.
In a statement on its website, Deutsche Bahn explained that trains will not leave stations in the area affected by the disruption.
“Due to a technical fault, rail traffic in central Germany is currently seriously disrupted. Trains in the affected area are waiting at stations, disabled due to the fault. Our specialists are working hard to repair the fault,” the rail operator said.
Radio communication failure
The portal of the daily “Tagesschau” belonging to public broadcaster ARD reported earlier that, according to a spokeswoman for the rail giant, Deutsche Bahn's radio communication in the Frankfurt area had failed. And if this system is not working, it is not allowed to drive. The cause of the disruption is still unclear.
Frankfurt is one of the most important European transport hubs, with around 1,200 local and long-distance trains running regularly every day.
