LOT Polish Airlines has canceled several flights to and from Germany, according to information posted on Thursday in social media by LOT spokesman Krzysztof Moczulski. Strikes are planned at major German airports on Friday. These include, among others, the ports of Frankfurt am Main, Munich and Hamburg.

The German trade union Verdi called on workers at airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dortmund, Hannover and Bremen on Wednesday for a 24-hour strike on Friday, saying negotiations over a pay dispute had made little progress. The union is currently negotiating three groups of workers: ground handling staff, public sector officials and aviation security staff.

The national airport association ADV said the cancellation of some 2,340 flights would affect around 295,000 passengers.

According to Moczulski, there will be no changes in the Polish carrier’s flights to Dusseldorf and Berlin.

Frankfurt Airport spokesman Dieter Hulick said on Wednesday that passengers should contact their airlines to see if they can rebook flights to other airports.

The strike coincides with the start of the 59th Munich Security Conference (MSC), which draws hundreds of delegates, including world leaders, to the Bavarian capital. However, Munich Airport confirmed that special flights such as humanitarian flights, flights for medical or technical emergencies, as well as flights related to the Munich Security Conference will be excluded from the strike.
