In the first half of 2023, the number of illegal entries into Germany via Poland and the Czech Republic increased significantly compared to the same period in 2022. The spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group for internal policy, Alexander Throm, is of the opinion that the situation “got out of control” and demands control at the border with Poland and the Czech Republic.
A total of 14,303 people entered illegally into German across the Polish-German border in the period from January to July, which is an increase of 144 percent compared to the same months in 2022. A comparison of April last year and this year even shows an increase of 220 percent, writes the portal of the daily “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” . The number of unauthorized crossings across the German-Czech border increased by almost 50 percent from 4,782 to 7,102 during this period.
The Christian Democrats want more control on the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic
Proportionately more people now enter Germany illegally across the border with Poland and Czechs than the other border sections combined. According to the response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to an inquiry from Alexander Throm, spokesman for internal policy of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, 8,062 people illegally entered Germany in July, 2,335 via Poland and 2,032 via the Czech Republic.
In the light of these data, Throm reiterates his demand for border controls with Poland and the Czech Republic. “Germany’s borders are under pressure that has not been seen for years and there is no improvement in sight,” Throm told FAZ. He added that illegal entries were “completely out of control”.
He criticized Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser for leaving the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic “unprotected”. – However, even Faeser knows that Putin and Belarus they deliberately use open borders as a gateway for illegal migration, said Throm.
