The court dismissed the complaint of the German carrier Deutsche Bahn and decided that the strike of the drivers’ trade union (GDL) can take place as planned. The protest in passenger transport will start on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday at 2 a.m. and will last until 6 p.m. on Friday.

The freight transport strike began on Tuesday at 18.

The Hessian labor court dismissed Deutsche Bahn’s lawsuit against this protest in the second instance, the dpa news agency reported on Tuesday evening.

Despite the introduction of an emergency timetable, mass cancellations are expected. Deutsche Bahn estimates that the protest will affect millions of travelers. Passengers are asked to refrain from trips that are not absolutely necessary.

At the end of November, GDL announced that talks with Deutsche Bahn had ended in failure. The most serious point of contention is the reduction of working hours from 38 to 35 hours a week for shift workers on full pay, as demanded by the trade union. The railway does not consider this feasible due to the shortage of skilled workers. GDL also demands a salary increase of EUR 555 per month and the payment of an inflation bonus of EUR 3,000. euro.
