A 37-year-old man riding a bicycle on the S7 expressway had almost four per mille of alcohol in his body. The man was detained by police officers near Zygmuntów (Masovian Voivodeship).
According to the spokeswoman of the District Police Headquarters in Ciechanów, Magda Sakowska, police officers from Ciechanów received a report about a cyclist riding the S7 in the Glinojeck area on Monday evening.
The patrol sent there stopped the driver of the two-wheeler near Zygmuntów. A sobriety test showed that the 37-year-old resident of the Płońsk district had almost four per mille of alcohol in his body. The police helped him leave the road safely.
What happens to a drunk cyclist?
Pursuant to applicable regulations, cyclists cannot use expressways and motorways, this also applies to the emergency lane or shoulder. Failure to comply with this ban may result in a fine of PLN 250. In turn, riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol, i.e. when the alcohol level in the body is higher than 0.5 per mille, is punishable by a fine of PLN 2,500.
Traffic officers appeal to all cyclists to use common sense and to comply with applicable regulations.
