On Monday, an almost six-month-old boy admitted at the end of February with severe head and chest injuries died in a hospital in Głogów (Lower Silesia). The parents are in custody on charges of physical and mental abuse of the infant and his two-year-old brother.

On February 29, an 11-week-old boy was admitted to the hospital in Zielona Góra (Lubuskie). Doctors informed the prosecutor's office that the infant's severe head and chest injuries could have been caused by violence.

The spokeswoman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Legnica, Prosecutor Liliana Łukasiewicz, said that the boy died on Monday morning in a hospital in Głogów. The prosecutor ordered an autopsy. It will take place on Wednesday at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Zielona Góra.

The results of the autopsy may contribute to changing the charges that the Głogów prosecutor's office brought in March against the child's parents – 34-year-old Monika M. and 40-year-old Marcin G. – residents of Przemków in Lower Silesia. They are suspected of physical and mental abuse of their two children – boys aged 11 weeks and two years old.

Parents abused children

“According to our findings, the parents had been abusing the two-year-old child since he was born. The boy was beaten with fists and called vulgar names (…). The younger boy was also abused from the moment he was born,” said Katarzyna Kasperczak, District Prosecutor in Głogów.

The woman and the man are in custody. They face up to 20 years in prison.

At the beginning of March, a two-year-old boy was taken from his parents and placed in foster care.
