Firefighters extinguished a basement fire in a block of flats in Głogów (Dolnośląskie) when they noticed unexploded bombs. Engineers were called to the scene, and the entire block – over 100 people – was evacuated.

The service received the notification of the fire after 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The basement of a block of flats at Kosmonautów Polskich Street in Głogów was on fire.

– When the guard showed up, they located the basement. After opening and trying to extinguish it, it turned out that there are items on the site that probably come from World War II – said St. Asp. Łukasz Szuwikowski, press officer of the KPP Głogów.

– From the preliminary information we obtained during these inspections, it turned out that the residents would need to be evacuated. The entire block, three cages and over 100 people were evacuated within 20 minutes – added Szuwikowski.
