The District Prosecutor’s Office in Gniezno explains the circumstances of the death of a 17-year-old from Gniezno (Greater Poland Voivodeship). The teenager was hospitalized with head injuries on Friday morning. Despite the doctors’ efforts, the victim died on Friday afternoon.
A 19-year-old was arrested on Saturday in the case. After the interrogation, the man was initially charged with causing a real life-threatening disease for a 17-year-old boy. – The victim died, therefore it is very likely that the suspect will be charged with more severe criminal liability – emphasized prosecutor Małgorzata Rezulak-Kustosz.
The autopsy of the 17-year-old, scheduled for Sunday, will be crucial. It will show whether the beating contributed to his death.
The teenagers knew each other
For the sake of the investigation, prosecutor Rezulak-Kustosz did not want to talk about the explanations provided by the 19-year-old and the details of the incident. She pointed out that the teenagers knew each other. The prosecutor did not say what was the reason for the conflict between them. – The suspect hit the victim’s head at least several times – she informed. The prosecutor’s office requested the court to apply a preventive measure in the form of pre-trial detention against the suspect. On Sunday, the court granted this request.
He is punishable by three to 15 years in prison for causing serious damage to health. When the charge is changed, the penalty may also change.
