“Golden Nugget”. Reports by Marta Abramczyk and Bartosz Żurawicz from TVN24 in the final

The ninth edition of the Lower Silesian Film Festival “Złoty Nugget 2024” will take place on September 27-29, 2024 in Złotoryja. As part of the event, awards will be presented in three categories: “animation”, “fiction” and “documentary”. In the latter, nine films have a chance to win a statuette, including two TVN Warner Bros. Discovery productions: “Mother Behind Bars” and “The Devastating Dam”.

“Mother Behind Bars” is a report by Bartosz Żurawicz about children who have been in the Grudziądz prison since the first days of their lives. – It's not like a woman gets a halo when she gets pregnant – says in the film Captain Elżbieta Kamińska, a prison psychologist. How is it possible that the system allows children to be in prison? What do the wards look like, where bars are combined with toys and colorful drawings hanging from the ceiling? What does childhood in prison look like and why are Prison Service officers not allowed to wear a uniform in this ward? And finally, does raising a child behind prison walls make a woman resocialize faster? Bartosz Żurawicz spent several days with the inmates and prison staff and collected often unclear answers.

“A devastating dam” Marty Abramczyk talks about the impact that a fence on the Polish-Belarusian border may have on the environment. The Białowieża, Augustów, Knyszyn Forests, the Natura 2000 area, the Biebrza and Lower Bug Valleys are a haven for animals and plants – a unique area on a global scale. This is where lynxes, wolves, deer and bison live. The experts the journalist talked to assessed that the construction of the barrier could be the beginning of the end of the populations of various animal species living there, because many of them have lost the possibility of reaching the right partner.

The Lower Silesia Film Festival “Złoty Nugget” debuted in 2016 at the Złotoryjskie Aurum Cinema. The aim of the Festival is to present and promote the artistic achievements of filmmakers. The competition is addressed to both amateurs and professionals, without any division in the competition sphere into these two groups of creators.
