Gołębiewko. A group of cyclists were hit. A woman and her six-year-old son were injured.

They were riding their bikes as a family. In front was a father with a four-year-old child in a child seat, in the back was a mother, and between them was a six-year-old son. The driver of a Ford Focus hit them from behind. The woman and the boy were taken to hospital.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 3 p.m. on provincial road 222, near the town of Gołębiewko in Pomerania.

– A 38-year-old driver of a Ford, driving towards Gdańsk, ran over two cyclists. A 34-year-old woman and her six-year-old son were injured. The woman was transported to hospital by an emergency medical service helicopter, and the boy by ambulance – Karol Kościuk, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Pruszcz Gdański, told us.

As described by the police officer, an entire family was riding on bicycles in the same direction as the Ford. In front was a father with a four-year-old child in a child seat. Nothing happened to them. In the back was a mother, and between the parents a six-year-old son. “They were riding correctly,” says Kościuk.

The driver of the Ford was detained. He was sober, and blood was taken for further tests for other psychoactive substances. The police examined the bikes and the car and secured them for procedural tests. They are now determining the causes of the accident.

– We ask all road users to be careful and adjust their speed to the road conditions – said the police representative.
