The police detained a 34-year-old man suspected of using violence against his parents. They reported that their son threatened to beat them up, burn down the house and demanded money for alcohol.

– The 34-year-old was arrested a few days ago when the police were called to a domestic intervention. At the scene, they found a 66-year-old woman and her 72-year-old husband – said junior asp on Tuesday. Paweł Klimek, police spokesman in Gostynin. – A married couple stated that their 34-year-old son, under the influence of alcohol, threatened to beat them up, burn down the house and used vulgar language towards them. Finally, he demanded money from them to buy alcohol, the spokesman added.
The evidence collected in the case provided the basis for charging the detained person with abuse of his loved ones.
Arrest and the threat of a harsh sentence
– The District Court in Gostynin, at the request of the police and the prosecutor’s office, imposed temporary arrest on the man for a period of two months. The 34-year-old faces up to eight years in prison – added the policeman.
As he emphasized, “domestic violence is a crime punishable by law”, and “anyone who knows that someone close to them is being harmed should react decisively and notify the appropriate institutions.” He also pointed out that the “Blue Card” procedure is an effective tool for protecting people suffering violence.
The “Blue Card” procedure
In 2022, the Polish police initiated the Blue Card procedure 52,569 times. The number of people suspected of being victims of domestic violence is 71,631. The vast majority are women – 51,935 and minors – 10,982. There were 8,714 men. In the case of perpetrators, the vast majority were men – 55,426. There were women 6,497, and minors 321.
– If there is a suspicion that a person is affected by violence, a representative of one of the five services: education, health care, police, social welfare, municipal commission for solving alcohol problems, initiates the “Blue Card” procedure – reminded the junior asp. Klimek. He noted that it is a “coordinated support system for people who experience domestic violence.”
