Paweł Kapusta, editor-in-chief of Wirtualna Polska, said in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 that “the authorities have been trying to influence free, independent media for years.” – It’s all a certain system. The information system is to be closed, journalists who are looking at the hands of the authorities must be turned off – added Andrzej Stankiewicz, deputy editor-in-chief of Onet.

Last week, the editor-in-chief of Wirtualna Polska, Paweł Kapusta, described that the ruling camp wanted to influence the portal in various ways. A few days earlier, Bartosz Węglarczyk, editor-in-chief of the Onet portal, wrote that a person associated with PIS she suggested to him what relations between the editorial office and the authorities should be like.

On Wednesday morning, a joint declaration of female editors and editors-in-chief of several dozen free media will be released, which will be a response to this kind of pressure.

Paweł Kapusta said that “it is nothing new that the authorities have been trying to influence free, independent media for years.”

He referred to the situation in which his editorial office found itself and how they tried to influence it. – I decided that – having such information – I cannot remain silent, this must be spoken out loud, so that in a few months, maybe in a few years, we will not wake up in the situation we are in today Hungary – he said.

Stankiewicz: the information system is to be closed

Andrzej Stankiewicz enumerated examples of activities related to limiting media freedom.

– State media – we know what they look like, there are no journalists there, there are no materials that look at the hands of the authorities. Almost all the largest regional newspapers were taken over by Orlen. There is no looking at the hands of the authorities, including local authorities. The authorities had an idea for repolonization – he said.

He added that “the authorities are afraid of the media that have foreign capital, because it is not easy to influence them.”

Stankiewicz assessed that “this is a systemic attempt to turn off the media, because only they reveal abuses of power.”

– It’s all a certain system. The information system is to be closed, journalists who are looking at the hands of the authorities must be turned off, he said.
