It was five minutes that shocked Kamil Grabara and VfL Wolfsburg. Five minutes during which Ralph Hasenhuettl's team lost three goals and a chance to score points in Sunday's match against Borussia Dortmund.
Wolfsburg's tragedy began in the 25th minute. Then, after Ramy Bensebaini's cross from a corner kick, Donyell Malen scored a goal to make it 1-0. For the Dutchman, it was the first goal in the Bundesliga since October 26 and the match against Augsburg (1:2).
But it wasn't only Malen who broke through on Sunday. In the 28th minute, Borussia carried out an excellent action, which ended with a pass from Julian Brandt and an accurate shot from the penalty area by Maximilian Beier. The German scored for the first time in the league since November 23 and the match against Freiburg (4-0).
Two minutes later, Beier and Brandt switched roles. The first one passed, and the second one beat Grabara with a flat shot from outside the penalty area. – But they're playing! They're hungry today! – Viaplay commentators were excited.
Wolfsburg lost to Borussia Dortmund
After the break, the hosts managed to improve the result. In the 58th minute, after a pass by Maximilian Arnold, Denis Vavro scored a goal to make the score 1:3. The guests finished the match weak after Pascal Gross was shown a red card in the 62nd minute.
After 15 rounds of the Bundesliga, Borussia is in 6th place in the Bundesliga table with 25 points and two points behind the fourth position, which gives a place in the next edition Champions League. Wolfsburg is only 11th with 21 points.
Grabarawho has been a Wolfsburg player since this summer, played in all Bundesliga matches. The Pole conceded 28 goals, keeping three clean sheets. Grabara also played in three German Cup matches and did not concede a goal in any of them.
Both Wolfsburg and Borussia will play their next matches in 2025. The former will play away to Hoffenheim on January 11, the latter will host Bayer Leverkusen the day before.
